TPC Scottsdale, a 36-hole golf complex in Scottsdale, Arizona, northeast of Phoenix, is a renowned destination in the golfing world. It was opened 37 years ago in 1986 as part of the Tournament Players Club network operated by the PGA Tour. This complex was born from the dream of then PGA TOUR Commissioner Deane Beman to create a network of clubs that embodied the TOUR’s quality standards, provided venues for TOUR events, and furthered the PGA TOUR’s charitable contributions.
The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale, designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, was specifically created to host the Phoenix Open starting in 1987. This course is noted for its par-3 16th hole, the only fully enclosed hole on the PGA Tour. Surrounded by grandstands capable of holding 20,000 spectators, this hole is famous for its lively atmosphere. Cheers greet shots that land on the green, while misses are met with boos. The hole gained legendary status when Tiger Woods scored a hole-in-one there during the 1997 Phoenix Open.
Besides the Stadium Course, TPC Scottsdale also boasts the Champions Course, designed by Randy Heckenkemper and completed in 2007. This course, replacing the original Weiskopf and Morrish designed Desert Course, adds to the diversity and challenge of the TPC Scottsdale complex.
Overall, TPC Scottsdale stands as a symbol of high-quality golfing, embodying the PGA Tour's standards and charitable missions, with a rich history in the golfing community, especially as the host of the annual Phoenix Open. Its courses offer both challenges to seasoned golfers and an engaging experience for enthusiasts through their unique design and vibrant atmosphere.
